How to: Set up a MIDI instrument.
Solution:
In Media Player, open the desired midi file. Select the 'Device' menu and select 'Properties'. Select 'Add New Instrument...', select the MIDI port, and click 'Next'. Select the instrument and click 'Next'. Type a name for the MIDI instrument and click 'Finished'.
NOTE: To add a MIDI instrument, a MIDI file must be open in Media Player.
1) Open Media Player:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Programs' and select 'Accessories'. (A submenu appears.)
c) Select 'Multimedia' and select 'Media Player'. (The 'Media Player' window appears.)

2) Open a MIDI file:
a) Select the 'Device' menu and select 'MIDI Sequencer...'. (The 'Open' dialog box appears.)
b) In the 'Look in' drop-down list, select the drive where the MIDI file is saved.
c) Select the appropriate folder and click 'Open'.
d) Select the desired MIDI file and click 'Open'.

3) Set up the new MIDI instrument:
a) Select the 'Device' menu and select 'Properties'. (The 'MIDI Properties' dialog box appears.)
b) Click 'Add New Instrument...'. (The 'MIDI Instrument Installation Wizard' appears.)

c) Select the MIDI port that the new instrument is connected to and click 'Next'.

d) Select the instrument definition and click 'Next'.

e) Type a name for the instrument in the 'Instrument name' box and click 'Finish'.

f) Click 'OK' to close the 'MIDI Properties' dialog box.
4) (Optional) To close MIDI Player, select the 'File' menu and select 'Exit'.
